Arshad Nadeem fourth in javelin as Pathirage wins Asian Games gold

Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem finished fourth in the Asian Games javelin final in Nagoya, according to a report in Dawn. The Olympic champion threw a season-best distance of 80.29 metres but could not move onto the podium. His final was hampered by rain and a slick runway, and he recorded three consecutive fouls after his best throw.

Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage, the world number one, won the gold medal with a best throw of 88.55 metres. His victory was notable as, Dawn reported, all five of his competition javelins were shattered in transit just two weeks before the Games.

India's Yashvir Singh took the silver medal with a personal-best throw of 85.72 metres on his final attempt.
