Rain washes out Asian Games cricket quarter-finals, sends Sri Lanka and Bangladesh into semis

Heavy rain in Nagoya has meant the men's cricket quarter-finals at the Asian Games have been abandoned without a ball being bowled, according to Dawn. Consequently, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka progressed to the semi-finals after their matches against lower-ranked Malaysia and Nepal respectively were washed out, with tournament rules awarding victory to the higher-ranked team.

This follows the earlier washouts on Monday that saw Pakistan and India advance to the final four. The semi-finals are now set for Thursday, with Pakistan to face Bangladesh and reigning champions India to play Sri Lanka.

Cricket tournament head Jarrad Shearer said the organisers would work urgently to prepare the converted baseball field at Korogi Athletic Park, which has been affected by recent heavy rain. He stated they would use soppers to dry areas not under covers.
